Originally from Arlington, Texas, Brandon Mason began studying the double bass at age 10 in the Texas public school system. A growing interest in a music career led him to Boston University where he received his bachelor’s degree as a student of Edwin Barker, principal bassist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. After studying in Boston, he completed his master’s degree at Rice University under the guidance of renowned pedagogue Paul Ellison. While a student in Boston, Mason was a member of the Boston Philharmonic and the Discovery Ensemble. In Houston, he performed regularly with the Houston Symphony for their 2014-15 season. In the summer of 2017, Brandon joined the Detroit Symphony as a guest on their tour of Japan and China. He attended many notable music festivals as a student, including Music Academy of the West, Spoleto Festival USA, Aspen and the Tanglewood Music Center. Outside of musical interests, he enjoys traveling, exploring Kansas City’s growing restaurant and coffee scene, and pursuing many different fitness goals.
