Dr. Donovan Stokes

Dr. Donovan Stokes is currently an Associate Professor at Shenandoah University-Conservatory in Winchester, VA and teaches courses in classical bass, jazz upright bass, electric bass, and chamber music. He is also Head of the string area and director the Shenandoah Conservatory Bass Ensemble.

SU bass students have weekly lessons with Dr. Stokes, attend a weekly studio class, and have the opportunity to perform in the Shenandoah Conservatory Bass Ensemble. SU’s Bass Ensemble performs a full recital each semester and performs off campus. Recent performances include an appearance at the 2009 International Society of Bassists Convention.

At SU, students have many opportunities to perform in Symphonic, Wind and Jazz large ensembles, as well as in chamber ensembles and jazz combos. Shenandoah offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in music, as well as an Artist Diploma. Several degrees in music are available, including Classical and Jazz Performance, Arts Management, Recording Arts, Music Education and Music Therapy.
